WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressmen Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) and Gil Gutknecht (R-MN) will convene a Town Hall meeting on the issue of reimportation of prescription drugs on Thursday, August 7 at 1:30 p.m., at North Park Village, 5801 N. Pulaski, Senate Building Cafeteria, Chicago.
Emanuel and Gutknecht led the charge for successful passage of H.R. 2427, the Pharmaceutical Market Access Act of 2003, shortly before Congress recessed in July. The legislation would allow Americans to purchase prescription drugs at the lower prices available in Canada or Europe. As Congress works on finalizing the Medicare bill this fall, spending $400 billion dollars of taxpayers’ money, the Congressmen want to ensure that Americans are getting the best price not the most expensive price for their prescription drugs.
