Emanuel to Administration: “Which is it?”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) released the following statement responding to the Administration’s mixed strategy for success in Iraq:

“Among plans being considered, officials have said, is one by Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, to send home two combat brigades, or about 7,000 of the 127,000 American troops, by September without replacing them, conditions allowing.”

"It's my belief . . . that we're going to be in Iraq for a long time," Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker, the Army chief of staff, told the House Armed Services Committee yesterday. "It's open-ended."

“Which is it?  Are we leaving or are we staying?  After 3 years 2,500 lives, 18,000 wounded and a half-trillion dollars, the American people deserve a strategy for success, not open-ended commitments and an open wallet.”
