Emanuel Awards “Hypocrisy Moment of the Week” to President Bush |
| CHICAGO, IL—Today U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) presented his “Hypocrisy Moment of the Week” Award to President Bush for praising freedom in Iraq just as Prime Minister Ayad Allawi declared “emergency rule” – a virtual martial law of curfews, due process restrictions, and ban on public assembly.
On Monday, the White House website posted a note National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice passed to President Bush declaring sovereignty had been transferred to Iraq. In response, President Bush scribbled “Let Freedom Reign!”[1] In presenting the award Congressman Emanuel said, “It appears George Orwell is alive and well in the Bush White House.” |
