Location and Hours
The National Gallery of Art, located on the National Mall between
3rd and 7th Streets at Constitution Avenue NW, is
open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and
Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed on
December 25 and January 1.

of Art Sculpture Garden,
located on the National Mall at 7th Street and Constitution
Avenue NW, is bounded by Constitution Avenue and Madison
Drive and by 7th and 9th Streets NW.

Today in Gallery History
On November 14, 1942, the Andrew W. Mellon Educational and Charitable Trust gave $5,000,000 to the National Gallery of Art to establish an endowment fund. Andrew Mellon had proposed such an endowment in 1936 when he offered to give his art collection to the nation and to construct the museum.
