The Hands On History Room presented history in a new way. More than 30 activities, built around reproductions of historical artifacts, gave visitors ages 5 to 105 the chance to touch, examine, and use objects like those seen around the Museum. Visitors were encouraged to slow down, ask questions, and find solutions. By engaging their hands, visitors enhanced their understanding of American history across the centuries.
Buffalo Hide Painting activity
Two activities have been adapted for the Web: “You be the Historian” and “Tracking the Buffalo: Stories from a Buffalo Hide Painting.” Background information, activities for teachers, and sources for further exploration also are included with the activities.
