(St. Thomas, V.I., July 10, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Homeland Security has sent funding to the Virgin Islands for the Buffer Zone Protection Program (BZPP).

The Virgin Islands is slated to receive $189,000.00 for Fiscal Year 2006 BZPP funding to states to support the implementation of Buffer Zone Plans outside the perimeter of identified critical infrastructure/ key resource sites.  The list of eligible sites within each state is classified for security purposes. This is to ensure and develop effective preventive and protective measures that make it more difficult for terrorists to conduct surveillance or launch attacks within the immediate vicinity of high priority critical infrastructure targets.
