United States Department of Health and Human Services Awards Grants
to Two Virgin Islands Agencies

(St. Thomas, V.I., July 10, 2006) — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has sent two grants to agencies in the Virgin Islands.

The first will be awarded to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services in the amount of $ 75,000. This funding will be used for the Special Programs for the Aging Title IV and Title II discretionary projects within the Senior Medicare Patrol Project.

The second grant has been awarded to the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) for scholarships for disadvantaged students program in the amount of $7,451.  This program is designed to promote diversity among health professions students and practitioners by providing scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
