Congresswoman Helped Organization Secure Grant From Small Business Administration And Honored Grant Recipients At A Recent Reception In Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Capps today announced a federal grant of $150,000 for Mission Community Services Corporation (MCSC).  Capps had helped MCSC, which is based in San Luis Obispo, secure the federal funding from the Small Business Administration (SBA) as part of the Women’s Business Centers program.  The funding will help the MCSC’s efforts to support woman as potential entrepreneurs and small business owners, particularly among traditionally underserved communities.  These resources will be used by MCSC to expand opportunities for women to own, manage, or operate business enterprises.

“This is a wonderful achievement for Mission Community Services Corporation (MCSC),” said Capps.  “I am very familiar with their efforts to expand opportunities for women in small business, and I was eager to help them secure additional funding to enhance their program.  I am thrilled that their excellent work has been recognized with this grant award.  I took special pride in helping to honor Mission Community Services Corporation when they were recognized at the Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) reception in Washington, D.C. a few weeks ago.  This federal funding for MCSC is well deserved and will go far in providing women in the San Luis Obispo area with the resources and support they need to be successful in the business world.”

“Too many women still face significant barriers in moving their entrepreneurial dreams towards reality,” said Andrea L. Zeller, Executive Director for Mission Community Services Corporation.  “This federal investment will help Mission Community Services Corp. give women the hands-on experience and training necessary to get their own business ventures off the ground in Central California.   We are proud to now be associated with the successful SBA national Women’s Business Center program!”
