WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Capps celebrated a victory for coastal protection when the House voted to reject Rep. Poe’s (R-TX) amendment that would have reversed the longstanding bipartisan Congressional ban on new offshore drilling.
“I am pleased that my colleagues soundly defeated this ill-advised proposal to roll back protections against new drilling off our coasts,” said Capps. “It is my hope that the House will also vote later tonight to reject the very similar provisions added to the bill in Committee by Rep. Peterson (R-PA). Ultimately, Peterson and Poe’s amendments are two peas in a pod that pose a serious threat to our sensitive marine and coastal areas.”
