Birmingham -- U S Representative Artur Davis announced the award of a $20 million HOPE VI Revitalization grant to the Tuscaloosa Housing Authority. The funding will be used to revitalize the public housing units at the McKenzie Courts developments and create a new mixed-income community.
"This funding will establish much needed, and long awaited, quality public housing in Tuscaloosa", said Rep. Davis. "I am so pleased to watch and assist in the revitalization of East Tuscaloosa".
The grant will replace 340 aging public housing units with 234 new public housing units and 28 homes for sale. Of these units, 248 will be at the original site and 14 of the homeownership units will be in a different location.
