CONGRESSMAN DAVIS, GOVERNOR RILEY

SET TO PARTICIPATE IN BLACK BELT

HEALTHCARE TOWN HALL MEETING

- Community offered chance to ask questions and receive answers from healthcare experts -

BIRMINGHAM - U.S. Representative Artur Davis is scheduled to participate in a Black Belt Healthcare Town Hall Meeting sponsored by Governor Bob Riley’s Black Belt Action Commission Tuesday, May 31 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Judson College in Marion.

The event is an opportunity for the Healthcare Committee of the BBAC, which is chaired by Congressman Davis, to provide an update to the community on the work of the committee thus far.  Presentations are scheduled by the Community Care Network, the Black Belt Eye Care Consortium, and Kid One Transport.

The event will also offer an opportunity for members of the community to ask questions of a panel of experts on a range of issues dealing with healthcare disparities in the region.

Because of his concerns for addressing issues concerning access to quality healthcare and other chronic disparities in the Black Belt, Governor Riley asked Congressman Davis to head up the Healthcare Committee for the BBAC in August 2004.  The committee is comprised of healthcare experts and community leaders from across the state and region charged with developing solutions to the long-standing problems concerning healthcare in the area.
