CONGRESSMAN DAVIS ANNOUNCES $120,000 IN

GRANTS FOR GREENE COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE

WASHINGTON  --  U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-Birmingham) announced today that the Greene County Ambulance Service will receive a $118,750 grant. The grant was awarded through the Firefighters Grants offered by the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department will use their grant for the Firefighting Vehicles Acquisition Program, which includes pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, quints, aerials, foam units, and fireboats.

“It is vital that we continue to invest in further empowering our homeland security infrastructure and its preexisting capabilities,” Davis said. “These grants will aid the firefighters who selflessly protect Alabamians living in Greene County.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. For the 2005 program, Congress appropriated $650 million in direct assistance to firefighters to improve the effectiveness of their operations. Up to this date, Rep. Davis has helped secure nearly $1 million in grants for fire departments in the 7th district in 2005.
