WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-Birmingham) announced today a grant for the Center Point Fire District totaling $49,400. The grant is distributed by the Firefighters Grants offered by the Department of Homeland Security
The grant will be used for Operations and Firefighter Safety Programs which include training, fire extinguishing equipment, personal protective equipment, individual wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
“Continual investment to empower our homeland security infrastructure and its pre-existing capabilities should be a vital interest of every citizen,” Davis said. “These grants will aid the firefighters who selflessly protect Alabamians living in Jefferson County.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. For the 2005 program, Congress appropriated $650 million in direct assistance to firefighters to improve the effectiveness of their operations. Up to this date, Rep. Davis has helped secured $1.3 million in grants for fire departments in the 7th district in 2005. |
