WASHINGTON - On Tuesday, September 12, U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-Ala.) is scheduled to join U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-Il.) to discuss improving performance among African American students.
The event, YES WE CAN: African-American Educators Talk About Raising Student Achievement is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. – Noon in Room 562 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
Also scheduled to join Obama and Davis are U.S. Representative Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.), Stephanie Robinson of the Kansas City Public Schools, Al Harper of the Elmont Union Free School District, Nassau County, NY; Barbara Adderley, principal of M. Hall Stanton Elementary School in Pennsylvania, and Martha Barber of the Alabama Reading Initiative in Birmingham.
Each member of the panel has used innovative techniques and programs in their respective environments to increase academic achievement through higher standards and accountability. This discussion will provide a chance to share what works and what doesn’t so that we can continue providing our children with the tools they need to compete in this global society.
