Membership
There are 17 Democrats that serve on the Committee on Ways and Means and 24 Republicans. Having served on the Committee since 1975, Representative Charles B. Rangel of New York has the most seniority among all the Democrats on the Committee. Congressman Rangel is also the person formally designated by the Democratic Caucus as the "Ranking Democrat" or "Ranking Member" of the full Committee, and he (or someone he designates) manages the Democrats' floor time on bills under the Committee's jurisdiction.
