Bush Should Unite not Divide Nation

Administration should welcome bipartisan solution to challenges ahead

Washington, D.C. - Ways and Means Ranking Member Charles B. Rangel issued the following statement in response to President Bush’s recent claims on Democratic tax policy:

“I understand the President is in campaign mode, but some of the things he is saying are just not true.  Democrats will fight for tax relief for middle-income families, work to close loopholes that send American jobs overseas, build incentives for educational opportunities, and close the nearly $350 billion ‘tax gap.’

“The President does not have to be a lame duck, he could follow the example of his Treasury Secretary who has avoided partisan campaigning in order to be able to formulate bipartisan solutions to the problems facing our country.”
