Cutting School Safety Funding: The Wrong Answer Our children are our nation’s priority and their safety should be second to none.  Recent incidents of school violence in Colorado, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania demonstrated that more can and should be done to protect our children.  While the federal government has a limited role in this area, it doesn’t mean that the Congress and the Administration should turn a blind eye to the situation.

Michaud Announces Funding for Assistance to Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women has awarded $450,000 in funding through the Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program to Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Portland, Maine.  The Office on Violence Against Women has also awarded two grants of $83,041 each to the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault in Augusta and to the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence in Bangor.

Technology: Key to Improving Communication When our nation recently marked the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, we were reminded of the horrors of that day and the very real threats that we still face.  In order to make our country safer, the 9/11 Commission recommended improvements to interagency communication and information sharing.  Because many experts believe that our country’s greatest security threat may come from within our borders, it is important, now more than ever, to ensure that our local jurisdictions have the technologies they need to do their job.
