Harris Applauds News of Lower Prescription Drug Prices
Wal-Mart Offers $4 on Generic Drugs

Washington, Sep 21 -  WASHINGTON, D.C.- (September 21, 2006) – U.S. Representative Katherine Harris today applauded the announcement by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., to offer nearly 300 generic drugs for $4.00 each. The price cut, to begin Friday, will be available at stores located in Bradenton, Sarasota, Palmetto, Venice, and Wauchula at Wal-Mart, Neighborhood Market, and Sam’s Club pharmacies. In addition, the lowered price drugs are expected to be available statewide in January 2007.

“This is a prime example of the private sector stepping in to help seniors and those who may not always be able to afford prescription drugs”, said Harris. “Now, thousands of people in the 13th district – and all across Florida next year – are assured that they will get the medicines they need at a fair price”.

Details of today’s announcement include:

  • Customers can purchase up to a 30-day supply;
  • The $4.00 cost will be available for the uninsured;
  • Insurance will be accepted;
  • The medicines available are used to treat allergies, cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure, along with prescriptions for some antibiotics, antidepressants, and antipsychotics.
