Congressman Pombo Announces the 2006
Congressional Art Competition

Washington, DC – Congressman Richard W. Pombo (CA-11) today announced the 2006 Congressional Art Competition, inviting all high school students in California’s Eleventh Congressional District to participate in An Artistic Discovery.

“This competition gives our young artists an opportunity to showcase their work in the U.S. Capitol,” said Congressman Pombo.  “I encourage students to participate in this unique opportunity.”

This district wide competition provides artists of high school age the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and display artwork at the exhibit located in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol.  Since 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated in the competition. 
 

All entries for the contest must be submitted at one of Congressman Pombo’s district offices by Friday, May 12, 2006.  Unfortunately, late entries will not be accepted.  Find requirements online at: http://www.house.gov/pombo/students/students.htm

 

Entry Requirements:

- Must be two-dimensional.  Must be 32 inches by 32 inches to the outside dimensions of the frame (frame not required), and no more than 4 inches in depth.

 - Categories include: Paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor); Drawings (pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers); Collage (must be two dimensional); Prints (lithographs, silkscreen, clock prints); Mixed Media; Computer generated art and Photography.

An official form must be signed by the teacher and the student to certify the originality of the art piece.  The form is available at Congressman Pombo’s offices or at:  http://www.house.gov/pombo/students/students.htm

Must be original in concept, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. Copyright laws. NOTE: Any entry which has been reproduced from an existing photo, painting or any other work produced by another person is a violation of the competition rules and WILL NOT be judged. 
The Final Decision regarding Suitability for the Exhibition in the Capitol will be made by a panel of qualified persons chaired by the Architect of the Capitol.
