Washington- Congressman Richard W. Pombo has
introduced the Traffic Reduction Through Technology Act, H.R. 5154,
providing tax incentives to businesses and their employees that establish a
teleworking arrangement.
“Traffic in our area has become a daily nightmare, and I believe this short
term solution can really improve quality of life for families. This bill
jump-starts teleworking for some of our local businesses, providing tax
incentives for them and their employees to utilize technology while getting
more people off the roads,” Congressman Pombo said. “This bill offers both
small and large businesses a tax credit while also saving on energy
consumption and reducing air pollution. I believe my constituents who
commute long distances will take advantage of this tax credit.”
Specifically, the tax
credit will:
-
Encourage employers to give employees the option of teleworking:
-
For each employee that teleworks, their employer will receive a tax
credit maximum of $1,000 and minimum of $200 per year.
-
Provide $250 to employees who telework.
-
Reduce traffic congestion on our Nation’s roads, reduce air pollution and
save on energy consumption.
While the State of
California and federal government offer teleworking arrangements with their
employees, many privately owned businesses are not able to allow teleworking
due to lack of infrastructure within their business. Their employees would
also qualify for a tax credit.
