Roseau Leaders Win Appeal with FEMA

Statement by U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson:

“Since the 2002 flood, the City of Roseau has made much progress in its recovery process, from flood protection to infrastructure improvements. However, there have been challenges, mostly on the federal level, that the city has faced throughout this process. So on Sept. 8, I was thrilled to hear the news that FEMA had finally made a positive decision in approving an appeal made by the city for funding of an alternate project.

“Because of the determined efforts of Mayor Jeff Pelowski and Community Development Director Todd Peterson, the city is on track to receive a portion of the funding that it was forced to set aside when the FEMA environmental assessment process caused extensive delay for the city center project.

“I’ve worked closely with city officials and Senator Dayton’s office to keep Roseau’s needs a priority in the Congress. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this decision by FEMA and want to thank Mayor Pelowski and Todd Peterson for pursuing this appeal, and for continuing their efforts to protect the Roseau area from future flooding.”
