CRP Emergency Haying Added to NW Minnesota Counties
-Kittson and Roseau Counties also Added-

(WASHINGTON, DC) - U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson said today that USDA has agreed to immediately expand acreage available for emergency haying, along with grazing, for livestock producers in Marshall, Pennington, Clearwater, Red Lake and East Polk Counties. Roseau and Kittson Counties also have been added to the designation, and Mahnomen County is expected to be added soon.

Peterson worked with FSA officials in Minnesota and Washington last week and was able to get emergency grazing designated in the northwest Minnesota counties, but ran into roadblocks with haying.

“I hope that these decisions aren’t coming too late for the producers in most need,” Peterson said. “I’m still frustrated with the delays in this process and even more frustrated with the State Technical Committee who held this up.

“I talked to FSA officials in Minnesota and in Washington last week to get this thing going, but we only were able to get grazing open. We’ve continued to work with State FSA Director Jon Monson and his people and now we’re seeing some action.”

According to USDA, along with expansion of CRP acreage for haying and grazing, producers’ CRP rental payment will only face a 10 percent reduction instead of the standard 25 percent.

Local FSA offices will post maps of counties approved for these practices with an approximate 150-mile radius out from these counties also eligible. Congressman Peterson urges producers to contact their local FSA office for more information.
