Highway & Transit Bill Passes Congress
-Peterson Announces 7th District Projects-
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Collin Peterson (D-7th District) announced that the conference report for the Transportation Equity Act, known as TEA-LU, passed the U.S. House of Representatives after a two-year delay. The bill will renew funding for highways, public transportation and road safety programs through 2009.
“This transportation bill has a lot of projects that will improve and upgrade roads and transit in my district,” Peterson said. “Although the funding is 20 percent less than what we originally started with, I’m just glad we’re finally moving forward on some sorely-needed projects that will help improve traffic and create jobs.”
The Senate also passed the conference report on Saturday, and the President is expected to sign it into law in the coming days.
Seventh District projects included in the Conference Report are below:
- $2,630,400 for the City of Marshall TH23 4-Lane Extension
- $320,000 for Stearns County Bridge No. 73501
- $281,600 for the City of Sauk Centre Lake Wobegon Trail - “Forgotten Four”
- $1.2 million for the North-South Corridor and Rail Road Overpass in the City of Staples
- $960,000 for the City of East Grand Forks 13th St Extension
- $768,000 for Becker County CR143 and CR 124 that connects White Earth and Ponsford, also crossing the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge
- $1.6 million for Hwy 7 Improvements through Blomkest, Lake Lillian, Cosmos, and Cedar Mills
- $800,000 for the City of Hutchinson School Road Underpass near the Luce Line Trail for direct access to the school.
- 7.1 million for the City of Paynesville Hwy 23 Improvements
- $13 million for the City of Moorhead SE Main
- $6,480,000 for the 10-ton Corridor through Polk, Pennington, and Marshall Counties
- $1,120,000 for the Paul Bunyan Trail between the cities of Walker and Bemidji
