Ryun Statement on CBO Budget Announcement

Washington, Aug 17 -

Congressman Jim Ryun (R-KS) released the following statement today in response to the announcement by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) which estimates the federal deficit will decline $59 billion this year to $260 billion:

“Today’s news from the Congressional Budget Office once again shows that we are better off when we let hard-working Americans keep their money rather than giving government a bigger slice of Americans’ paychecks. In addition to igniting nearly 5 years of continuous economic growth, tax relief I supported is dramatically reducing the size of the deficit. CBO reported today we cut the deficit by 30% from the CBO’s projection in March.

“As a member of the Budget Committee, I will continue to prevent wasteful spending and oppose Democrats who want to tax-and-spend their way regardless of taxpayers’ opinions. Meanwhile, Republicans will continue to put more dollars in the pockets of Americans by extending the tax favorable treatment for 529 college saving funds, a provision President Bush signed into law today as part of pension reform legislation.”
