The Second District of Kansas is comprised of 26 counties in the eastern part of the state, stretching from the northern border with Nebraska to the southern border with Oklahoma. The rolling plains throughout the district are complemented by tumbling hills and caverns along the Kansas-Missouri state line. Topeka, the capital, sits on a bluff overlooking the Kansas River.

This region of the country is filled with prime farmland ripe for wheat, soybeans, and corn producers. Additionally, the Second District proudly hosts Fort Riley, Fort Leavenworth, and the 190th Air Refueling Wing. Fort Riley, known as "America's Warfighting Center," is the headquarters for two Army brigades. Fort Leavenworth is home to the Combined Arms Center (CAC), which educates all officers in the U.S. Army. They have had a significant impact on the Kansas economy, along with numerous successful businesses, both large and small, in the Second District.
The Second District is home to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Washburn University in Topeka, and Pittsburg State University’s renowned technology program.

The green plains of eastern Kansas have witnessed many remarkable segments of American history. In the 1850s, the pro-slavery bushwhackers of Lecompton were embroiled in fighting with the abolitionist jayhawkers in Lawrence, leading up to the Civil War. More than a century later, in the historic 1954 case, Brown v. Board of Education, Topeka’s system of legal segregation was overturned.

Despite the diversity of the Second District, its welcome charm permeates throughout. It remains home to some of the friendliest people you will ever meet, including thousands of our valued military veterans.
