Akin Statement on Apparent North Korea Nuclear Test

St. Louis, MO- Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) a member of the House Armed Services Committee has issued the following statement today regarding North Korea’s apparent underground test of a nuclear weapon.

“North Korea is one of the most unstable regimes in the world and the detonation of a nuclear weapon is an intentionally provocative act that is in direct contradiction of the wishes of the international community.

“Although the nature of the explosion has yet to have been confirmed, today’s actions by North Korea underscores the necessity of continuing attempts to curtail nuclear proliferation as well as developing greater capability to respond to a nuclear assault by a rogue nation.

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I applaud the wisdom and courage of the administration pursuing the development of the missile defense system. This system, which had numerous detractors at home and abroad, will give our nation the ability to destroy an incoming nuclear missile launched by a rogue nation.”
