The incumbent is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluating of a daily and long-term curriculum of developmentally appropriate activities for young children. Responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of young children and for providing teaching mentoring and serving as a model teacher for child development activities. The Program Director assists with personnel activities (selection, training and development, evaluation, etc.) pertaining to Center staff.
As the Program Director, the incumbent works collaboratively with staff and parents on curriculum and developmental issues concerning the center and operations of the Center. The incumbent will assist the Director and staff with Center related educational projects and programs. In addition, the Program Director will perform other tasks as assigned by the Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the design and organization of learning environments and a daily schedule of developmentally appropriate activities for young children that include attention to cognitive development, creative expression, physical-motor development, social/emotional development, and multicultural experiences.
2. Conducts weekly classroom observations, documenting and assessing classroom interactions. Uses classroom observations as medium for dialogue and interactions with teaching teams to discuss the implications of classroom practices including the impact on the curriculum.
3. Assist the teaching staff n the supervision of small and large groups of children in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities both in the classroom and outdoor environment being aware of safety factors and appropriate adult-child ratios.
4. Responsible for the maintenance of the Center Resource Library and maintenance of the center-wide library of children’s books and assist classroom teachers with age and developmentally appropriate reading resources.
5. Develop strategies to fund the expansion of developmentally appropriate extra-curricular activities for the various classrooms as well as the center library.
