Job Summary

The Office of Telecommunications, HIR Communications, Chief Administrative Office, is seeking a Sr. Telecommunications Administrator to provide front-line support to House offices requesting telecommunications assistance. The incumbent should possess strong customer service skills, experience in using Avaya integrated site administrator software for making adds, moves and changes in the telephone switch; and experience in working with wireless devices and carriers for purchase and activation of devices and service.  Duties include: creating service requests to add or change telephones, system features and line; analyze and correct failed service requests; and perform routine maintenance functions; maintain telephone inventory for Members’ Washington and district offices; answer billing questions about the monthly telecommunications statement of charges, and make adjustment to charges as appropriate; obtain quotes and prepare purchase orders for the acquisition and installation of equipment in district offices; consult with offices on available wireless devices and services and prepare purchase orders; and participate in answering calls to the main line call center. Incumbent must be able to work overtime during congressional transitions.

Major Duties:

1)      Create service requests to add or change telephones, system features, and lines.  Analyze and correct failed service requests; perform routine maintenance functions.

2)      Maintain accounting database.  Establish and update inventories for Washington and district offices.

3)      Distribute and reconcile biannual equipment inventory.

4)      Answer questions about the monthly Telecommunications Statement of Charges and make adjustments to charges where appropriate.

5)      Assist in the issuance of House Calling Cards and provide offices with assistance in resolving fraud and abuse problems.

6)      Coordinate with technicians the installation of new services and assist in resolution of trouble tickets.

7)      Obtain quotes and prepare purchase orders for the acquisition and installation of equipment in district offices.

8)      Respond to inquiries from House offices regarding products and services.  When necessary, refer more complex tasks to the Telephone Systems Consultant.

9)      Coordinate and assist with cellular phone repair, purchase, programming and fraud discovery.

10)    Maintain Member office files.

11)    Answer calls to the main telephone line and distribute as needed.

12)    Perform other official duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.  Experience in the telecommunications field or related office experience.  Experience working with local and long distance telephone companies. Intermediate PC skills and data base experience. Pleasant telephone manner.  Good customer service skills. Ability to work additional hours as required.  Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with elected officials, senior staff, information systems professionals and non-technical users.  Must be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security clearances as deemed appropriate by senior management.
