International efforts will further cut greenhouse gas emissions Nov 7 - Methane re-use projects by over 350 organizations worldwide will cut the equivalent of nearly 5 million tons of carbon dioxide, enough to power 800,000 homes.

Philips to cut use of toxic metals at four U.S. plants Nov 2 - Philips Lighting will voluntarily cut 780 pounds of mercury from manufacture of its fluorescent lighting products by next year, and eliminate lead from its manufacturing processes by 2010. EPA's National Waste Minimization Goal is to reduce the use or release of 4 million pounds of priority chemicals by 2011.

Put older appliances in deep freeze Oct 27 - Responsible Appliance Disposal helps utilities encourage owners to retire and properly dispose of old refrigerators and freezers, to reduce releases of ozone-depleting gasses or other harmful substances.
