CONGRESSMAN WALSH ANNOUNCES INCREASED FUNDING FOR ROSE WATER DISTRICT

(Palmyra, New York)- Congressman Jim Walsh today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development has approved an additional $80,000 in loans to cover costs incurred during the construction of an area known as Water District #6 in the Town of Rose, New York. This additional funding will make it possible for construction of the water district to begin.

"Water is one of our region's most important resources," said Congressman Walsh. "I'm pleased that the federal government has been a partner in ensuring quality drinking water for Town of Rose residents."

In addition to the most recent loan, Rose has received $156,500 in loans and $359,600 in grants from the USDA, as well as a $400,000 GOSC HUD Grant secured with the help of Congressman Walsh.

"I'm pleased Rural Development was able to help Rose build a new water distribution system," said Scott Collins, Acting State Director for Rural Development in New York. "The new system will improve the water quality and the quality of life for area residents."

"The residents of the Town of Rose are so appreciative of the efforts of Congressman Walsh to secure Federal funding for public service projects that could not be done otherwise. This particular water extension project brings potable water to people who either have poor water quality, unhealthful water, or a very limited supply," said Rose Supervisor Lucinda Collier. "Without grant monies, such a project would be cost-prohibitive. We thank Congressman Walsh for helping to improve quality of life in the Town of Rose and for his dedication to the constituents in this district."

Construction is expected to begin within the next few weeks, and the planned water district will serve 53 customers. Until the construction of this water district, residents are relying on private wells that have low yields and poor quality per Department of Health tests.
