LAKE ONTARIO COASTAL INITIATIVE (LOCI) RECEIVES $260,000 GRANT ALLOCATION

(Rochester, N.Y.)- On October 12th Congressman Walsh, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, and Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy announced the first round of funding of the Durand Eastman Beach Master Plan.  The $260,000 grant allocation is a part of the Lake Ontario Coastal Initiative's (LOCI) Local Implementation Grants program.

The Lake Ontario Coastal Initiative - administered by the Center for Environmental Information in Rochester - was funded by a federal grant secured by Congressman Walsh.  The 2006 Local Implementation Grant Program was created to address local needs and offers support for local projects that deal with issues such as wastewater treatment, coastal restoration, and overall coastal education. 

“Protection and preservation of the Great Lakes and Lake Ontario starts in our backyard. These grants will enable local communities to implement projects with the potential to achieve measurable improvements to the environment of our 'North Coast,' its embayments, tributaries, and watersheds. I am pleased to have been an active supporter of the federal funding through which these grants were made possible", said Congressman Walsh.
