WALSH TO OPEN NEW SENIOR HOUSING COMMUNITY IN CICERO
Catholic Charities' Lucille Manor Relies Heavily on Federal Support

(Cicero, New York)- Congressman Jim Walsh will join community leaders and Catholic Charities officials to officially dedicate Christopher Community's newest senior living community - Lucille Manor - at ceremonies on Tuesday, August 22nd at 10:00 a.m.  The project is located at 5569 Legionnaire Drive in Cicero, off Route 31 (behind the Cicero Post Office and beside the American Legion hall).

Lucille Manor contains 24 one-bedroom units to house fixed-income seniors. The project was funded with $120,000 from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, $309,475 from Onondaga County, and a $1,734,700 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Monthly rents are subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and are based on 30% of adjusted monthly income.

The complex was initially proposed in 2002 as part of the Cicero Commons development project.  When the Commons project folded, Christopher Community found itself in jeopardy of losing HUD funding secured for construction as it searched for a new location and dealt with local zoning issues.  Congressman Walsh arranged for an extension from HUD when Christopher Community approached the end of its two-year period to use the grant money, allowing Christopher Community enough time to identify a new site, design the facility, and begin construction in order to access federal funding.

"Lucille Manor offers a safe, attractive, and affordable housing option for income eligible seniors in the northern suburbs," said Congressman Walsh.  "I'm proud of the increased federal investment our community enjoys to provide new housing opportunities like this.  Christopher Community and Onondaga County are to be commended for accessing these important federal resources and for their commitment to senior housing in our region."

Christopher Community is the housing arm of Catholic Charities, operating 42 senior citizen complexes throughout 11 counties in upstate New York.
