SAVE OUR SODUS RECEIVES 2006 ENVIRONMENTAL
QUALITY AWARD FROM THE EPA

(Palmyra, New York)- Congressman Jim Walsh today announced that Save Our Sodus, Inc. (SOS) has been awarded a 2006 Environmental Quality Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Nominated by Congressman Walsh, the organization received the award in the EPA's Non-Profit Organization, Environmental or Community Group category.  Each year the EPA honors individuals or groups that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to protecting and enhancing environmental quality in our region.

"SOS has made significant contributions to improving environmental quality in and around the Bay, and to increasing public awareness of environmental issues facing the watershed," said Rep. Walsh. "This award is a much deserved national recognition.  I'm proud to be a partner."

SOS is an alliance of citizens, businesses and others concerned with preserving the water quality, natural beauty and purity of Sodus Bay, located along the southern shore of Lake Ontario.  Under the leadership of President Ann Hayslip, the group is engaged in several activities to monitor water quality, including addressing invasive species, working to keep the shoreline clean, and meeting with civic and elected leaders to advocate for Sodus Bay and its residents.

"On behalf of the SOS board and members, I would like to express our appreciation to Congressman Walsh for nominating us for this award," said President Ann Hayslip.  "It was a great honor to be at the award ceremony in New York City. To be among the other recipients and hear about their work inspired us to continue our efforts to improve the quality of Sodus Bay."
