(Prescott, AR) The United States Department of Agriculture has confirmed
a cow in Washington State has tested "presumptive positive" for mad cow
disease. Shortly after the announcement, U.S. Congressman Mike Ross (D-AR),
a member of the House Agriculture Committee and ranking member of the Livestock
and Horticulture Subcommittee, issued the following statement.
"As the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee's Livestock
and Horticulture Subcommittee, I support Secretary Veneman's decision to
implement USDA's rapid response plan after one cow in Washington State
tested presumptive positive for mad cow disease," Ross said. "I am confident
that our government will take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety
of our beef supply to consumers. It is important to note that this is the
first case to appear in the United States and only one cow in Washington
State has tested presumptive positive. We must not over react and we must
all work together to minimize the negative impact on America's farm families. |
