Congressional Delegation Announces Job Placement Grant for Katrina Evacuees in Arkansas
In-State Job Counselors to Assist During Period of Dislocation

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, along with Congressmen Marion Berry (AR-01), Vic Snyder (AR-02), John Boozman (AR-03), and Mike Ross (AR-04), today announced an $800,000 grant from the Department of Labor to provide employment assistance to hurricane evacuees located in Arkansas.  The Arkansas Workforce Investment Board and the state Department of Workforce Services are currently coordinating efforts with the U.S. Department of Labor to utilize the funding to match evacuees looking for work with employers in Arkansas.

The Hurricane Reintegration Counselor Program is designed to provide intensive career and life counseling directly to individuals displaced by the hurricanes.  The program works with state employment agencies to place highly skilled reintegration counselors in areas where hurricane evacuees are concentrated.  Due to the large concentration of hurricane evacuees in Arkansas, the state was chosen as one of twelve states to receive the funding.  Delegation members said the Arkansas Workforce Investment Board and the state Department of Workforce Services plan on hiring eight reintegration counselors that will travel the state and provide one-on-one guidance to evacuees.
