(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04) Wednesday announced
his district Congressional Offices in El Dorado, Hot Springs, and Prescott
have been designated by the American Red Cross as official donation collection
locations for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. While Ross also has a district
office in Pine Bluff, the American Red Cross has requested that residents
in Pine Bluff bring their donations to the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
Ross strongly encourages the donation of clothing, non-perishable food,
school supplies, toiletries, toys, books, and baby items including diapers
and formula. All items donated will be dispersed in the immediate
vicinity of where they are donated.
In Arkansas, there are estimated to be more than 50,000 people our
neighbors from Louisiana and Mississippi - who have evacuated their homes
and are staying with family and friends, and at hotels, churches, church
camps, and convention centers. Perhaps most remarkably, families
throughout Arkansas have opened their homes and provided hospitality to
perfect strangers who have nowhere else to turn, said Ross.
Our southern neighbors fled their homes without any idea the devastation
that would occur as a result of Hurricane Katrina or that it would be months
before they were allowed to enter their homes and communities again, continued
Ross. Our friends from Louisiana and Mississippi left their homes
with little more than the clothing they were wearing and are in dire need
of clothing, food, toiletries, school supplies for their children enrolling
in new schools, and baby items such as formula and diapers. I urge
you to take part in the relief efforts and do your part to provide much
needed assistance to your fellow American citizens who have lost everything
in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Donations will be accepted from 8:00am 5:00pm Monday through Friday
