Ross Statement on First 4th District Casualty in Iraq

(Prescott, AR)  Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) on Tuesday announced the United States Department of Defense has confirmed that Pfc. Jonathan Cheatham of Camden died in Baghdad, Iraq on July 26, 2003.  Cheatham was assigned to the 489th Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, North Little Rock.  The following is a statement issued by Congressman Ross:

“I am saddened to learn of the death of Pfc. Jonathan Cheatham.  Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and those in his hometown of Camden whose lives he touched.  I am sure Jonathan was proud of his service to the U. S. Army and to our country.  I know he will be missed by his fellow soldiers, and all those who knew him and counted him as a friend.  Furthermore, his fellow soldiers also know how much he contributed to the accomplishment of his unit's mission and to the U.S. Army.  This is the first life lost in Iraq from our district, but it is one too many.  I will continue to keep Jonathan and his family, as well as all of our brave and selfless men and women in uniform who are still serving in and around Iraq and throughout the world in my thoughts and prayers.”
