(Washington, D.C.) Fourth District
Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) announced on Monday that the recent disaster declaration
for the state of Arkansas has been extended to include individual assistance
to Chicot, Columbia and Nevada Counties. On June 6, President Bush
declared a major disaster for the State of Arkansas, triggering the release
of federal funds to help communities recover from severe storms, tornadoes,
and flooding that began May 2, 2003.
Individuals or households in Chicot, Columbia, and Nevada Counties are eligible to receive disaster assistance under declaration number FEMA-1472-DR. As previously announced, Chicot County is also eligible for public assistance for the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged public facilities. In addition, all counties in Arkansas are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. This program provides assistance to state and local governments for actions taken to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural or technological hazards. Additional designations may be made at a later date after further evaluation. Please contact the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management at 501-730-9750 for more information. |
