Ross Announces $119,969 in FEMA Fire Grants for 4th District Departments

(Washington, D.C.) Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) announced Wednesday that three fire departments in the Fourth District have been approved for grants in the second round of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 2003 Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program.

“This is wonderful news for Sevier, Drew, and Logan Counties,” Ross said.  “As the fire season gets underway, it is important that we find all the resources we can for our local firefighters so they can have the training and equipment needed to continue protecting lives and property.  Our firefighters do a great job with what they have to work with, but in order to respond to day-to-day calls and be prepared for larger emergencies; they need the added assistance these FEMA grants will provide.  This is only the second round of grants that has been announced, I am confident that many more of our fire departments will enjoy these added resources as more grant funding is released.”

The Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program includes funding for training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.  Departments in the Fourth District receiving grant awards for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety are as follows:

Clear Creek Fire Department (Wilmar) - $101,485
Grayson Fire Association (Booneville) - $11,160

The Emergency Medical Services Program includes funding for equipment, training, and wellness and fitness initiatives for fire-based EMS units.  Departments receiving grant awards for Emergency Medical Services are as follows:

Gillham Volunteer Fire Department - $7,324

This is the second round of notifications for the 2003 program.  Further notifications are expected on a weekly basis for the next 12-15 months.
