Ross Accepts ‘Homecare Champion of the Year’ Award

(Washington, D.C.) Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR) today recognized the first session of summer interns in his Washington, D.C. office.  Rebecca Burns of Magnolia, Lauren Guthrie of Prescott, and Derrick Ross of Hope are assisting constituents and staff members on various projects, as well as attending committee hearings and legislative briefings.  The internship program consists of two five-week sessions that provide the young leaders the opportunity to serve the community by assisting in Congressman Ross’s Washington, D.C. office.  The session includes three interns from across the Fourth Congressional District.

“I am very proud of this group of interns, who have already immersed themselves into hard work in the nation’s capital,” said Ross.  “The internship program is designed to familiarize students with the inner-workings of a congressional office, while also teaching them the importance of public service.  Congressional internships provide a unique opportunity for students to learn first hand knowledge of our federal government and the legislative process.  I am confident their internship experience will be very rewarding, and the students will be successful in all their future endeavors.”

Rebecca Burns is a senior at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and is majoring in Finance/Real Estate and Marketing and plans to graduate in December 2005.  Burns is the daughter of Molly and Robert Burns and is active in Chi Omega sorority and is a Make A Wish Volunteer.

A senior at Southern Arkansas University of Magnolia, Derrick Ross will graduate in May 2006, and plans to attend Dental School.  Ross is the President of the Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, president of Boy Scouts of America, Treasurer of Biology and Tribeta Club, and a member of the Chemistry Club.  Ross is the son of Randall and Alice Ross.
