Ross Named New Member Liaison

(Washington, D.C.) Fourth District Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) is taking on a new role within the Democratic Leadership.  House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has invited Ross to serve as the Leader’s Liaison to the New Members, helping his freshman colleagues as they continue to adjust as first-term Congressmen.

“I am pleased to accept this new responsibility,” Ross said.  “As a brand-new Congressman with a very large district to serve, I faced certain challenges when it came to things like scheduling and constituent outreach.  With a solid plan and a supportive staff, we met those challenges and did so successfully.  I am eager to share the lessons I’ve learned with our new Members, and to help them meet their challenges one by one.”

As the Leader’s Liaison to the New Members, Ross will be vital in a number of areas, including:

·        Acting as a mentor to new Members by offering advice or guidance in a number of areas on a one-on-one basis or in a meeting of the entire class;

·        Acting as a facilitator and organizer of meetings with the entire freshmen class on behalf of Leader Pelosi;

·        Helping to foster relationships between new Members and older Members, key constituency groups and industry representatives;

·        Updating Leader Pelosi on new Member activities and progress on a regular basis.

Pelosi says she is enthusiastic about this new position.  "Our new Members need a mentor they can turn to with questions and concerns, and Congressman Ross's experience provides an excellent model.   He had an extremely successful first term, followed by an impressive reelection last fall.  Our freshman class will benefit tremendously from his example and his leadership."
