Local Student, Chance Hughes, Honored at Military Appointee Breakfast

(Washington, D.C.) Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04) recognized military appointee Chance Hughes of Smackover, at a military academy appointee breakfast on Monday in Hot Springs.  Ross hosted a military academy breakfast to honor students who received his nomination and have been appointed to one of the United States Military Academies.

Hughes, a graduate of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and Arts

is the son of Janice Hughes and was recognized for his appointment to the United States Naval Academy.  Hughes was nominated by Congressman Ross last year, but chose to defer his appointment for one year.

“I am honored to nominate Chance Hughes to the U.S. Naval Academy and I commend him on his hard work, which has earned him this distinguished achievement,” Ross said.  The admissions process for our service academies is highly competitive.  Our academies seek not only those in peak physical condition, but also those who display natural leadership, high moral character, and a commitment to academics.  Chance clearly represents all of these characteristics, and I congratulate him and wish him all the best as he enters academy life.”
