"On Tuesday, Congressman Jim Oberstar (MN-8), ranking member of the House Transportation Committee, will travel to Arkansas, at my invitation. Congressmen John Boozman (AR-3) and Max Sandlin (TX-1) will join me in escorting Congressman Oberstar to specific locations where funding is needed for the completion of I-49, I-69, I-530, the Great River Bridge that will connect I-69 From Mississippi to Arkansas, the Yellow Bend Port and the Southeast Arkansas Intermodal Facility. "The aim of this transportation summit is to allow local chambers of commerce, community leaders, and others to speak with Congressman Oberstar about the positive impact this completed interstate will have in their communities. "I am confident that this trip will
serve as an eye-opener; that it will convince Congress that part of paving
the way toward a solid economic future – on a local and on a national level
– lies in the completion of these projects."

“This is a serious problem right now for our neighbors in Louisiana,” Ross said. “And especially now that this virus has been detected in Union County, we must work together to try and keep it under control. My staff and I have been speaking with various federal agencies about this issue, and I assure you we will continue to monitor the situation. The only way this disease is spread is through mosquitoes, and if we keep them away, we’ll keep Arkansans safe. “There are simple prevention measures we can all perform, such as wearing long-sleeve clothing, wearing mosquito repellant at all times, remaining indoors after dark, and making sure there is no standing water in bird baths, flower pots, or other such vessels in our yards. I urge you to share this information with your families, and visit my website for more helpful information on this virus and how you can help fight it. “Remember, it is extremely rare for a person to become infected with the West Nile Virus, and it cannot be spread from person to person. As long as we perform these simple preventative measures for the remainder of the mosquito season, we should be out of harm’s way.” For more information on the West Nile Virus, including maps of affected areas, instructions for reporting cases, and a list of symptoms, visit www.house.gov/ross. |
