MIKE'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

Ross Tapped To Give National Radio Address

Becomes First Freshman Rep. To Give Democratic Response to
President Bush’s Weekly Radio Address

(PRESCOTT, AR) – U.S. Representative Mike Ross (D-AR) will be crafting the Democratic message this weekend when he is featured on the Democrats’ national weekly radio address.  The weekly address airs immediately following the President’s weekly address, and is normally reserved for party leaders, such as senior Members of the House and Senate, or Governors.  Because the schedule usually rotates between Democratic Governors, Senators, and Members of the House, slightly more than a dozen Democratic Members of the House are usually given the opportunity to craft the Democratic message every year.  Ross is the first freshman member of the House of Representatives in the 107th Congress to give the Democrats’ weekly radio address.  This Saturday, Ross plans to speak on the upcoming budget debate and the need to ensure our economic security.

“This is a tremendous honor, and I’m humbled by it,” said Ross. “When Congress returns to Washington, we must work to help those workers who have lost their jobs, provide incentives to grow the economy, and make sure that our country is prepared for and protected from future terrorist attacks.  If Republicans and Democrats do not work together, more and more displaced workers are going to lose their health insurance, unemployment benefits, and their homes.  We must work together to get the economy moving forward once again.”

Ross is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of 33 fiscally conservative Democrats in the House of Representatives that seek to bring members of both parties together to find common sense solutions to issues facing our nation.

The Saturday morning address will air at exactly 10:06 AM Central Time on eleven main radio networks including: ABC, AP, C-SPAN, NBC/Mutual/Westwood One, NPR, UPI, USA, American Urban Radio Network, Armed Forces Radio Network and Standard News Radio.

Looking Forward to the New Year

"As the holiday season comes to a close and we look forward to the promises of this New Year, I want the people of Arkansas to know that I am continuing to focus on the needs of the Fourth Congressional District and looking ahead to the issues that Congress will be addressing when we return to Washington later this month.  During the month of January, I will be in Arkansas traveling throughout the district meeting with community and business leaders, members of the agriculture community, and local citizens to discuss issues of importance to the Fourth District.

"I am pleased to have completed a successful first year in office where I was able to secure over $120 million to help families and seniors, support businesses and industries, and improve our infrastructure in the Fourth Congressional District.  I fought hard this year to improve education for our children, to protect Social Security and modernize Medicare to include medicine for our seniors, to support tax relief for hard-working Arkansas families, to provide much needed assistance to our farmers through a new Farm Bill, to protect important industries like our catfish farmers and timber producers from the unfair dumping of Vietnamese so-called catfish and Canadian softwood lumber, and to make sure the President and our military have the resources they need to defend our country against the evils of terrorism.

"As we begin this new session of the 107th Congress, I will continue to fight for these priorities, and I am looking forward to addressing the challenges facing our area and our nation.

"I hope to get to visit with many of you in the coming days as I make stops in communities throughout the Fourth District.  If I can ever be of service to you, I hope that you will free to contact me by phone, fax, email, or by sending letters to my Prescott office at 221 West Main Street, Prescott, Arkansas, 71857. "
