ISP, IDOT and Police Across Illinois Focus on Safety Belt Enforcement Over Thanksgiving Holiday

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police (ISP), the Secretary of State Police, the Chicago Police Department and hundreds of other local police agencies in Illinois are teaming up to crackdown on drivers who fail to buckle up for a two-week period around the Thanksgiving holiday. Also over the holiday, IDOT will debut two new Public Service Announcements in its “True Stories” ad campaign.

ISP announces Motorcycle Enforcement Bureau enforcement statistics

The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced today the enforcement figures for the state's new Motorcycle Enforcement Bureau (MEB). The unit is a combined effort of the ISP and Illinois Department of Transportation to provide Troopers more mobility and flexibility in addressing highway safety. Since its deployment on May 16, the 43 member unit has issued 17,167 citations through the end of October. Of those, 13,851 citations were for speeding, while 1,362 were for seatbelt violations. MEB officers also made 20 DUI arrests, and 97 other criminal arrests.

Winter Preparedness & Safe Driving Tips

Martin, Illinois Tollway Acting Executive Director Brian McPartlin, and Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Larry Trent urged motorists to prepare themselves and their vehicles for winter driving conditions. Also, IDOT crews from around Illinois are making final preparations to get the state’s frontline personnel and equipment ready for winter emergencies.

Illinois State Police announce Illinois’ crime rate continues to decline

The Illinois State Police today announced that the Illinois crime rate fell 3.1 percent in 2005, with reports of murder, theft, and motor vehicle theft realizing the biggest decreases.
