Career & Labor Market Services and InformationChicago (11/16) – The seasonally adjusted Illinois unemployment rate in October was 4.1%, tying the state’s lowest level on record, reported once before in March 1999. October’s rate is down 0.3% from September and remains below the national rate for the fourth time this year, which is the first time this has occurred since 1998, according to data released today by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and IDES.  >> more

Chicago - At IDES, our focus is good customer service, and recently we have added a new tool to assist you in understanding the economic data we compile.

I*COMPASS is an on-line learning guide to the wide variety of labor market and career information available on the IDES website. The difference is we explain it to you in easy to understand terms and show you how to get the most from using our website. We’re excited to offer this new tool to the public. To view I*COMPASS, you will need to:

  • Disable any pop-up blocker running on your browser
  • Have your screen resolution set at 800 x 600 or higher
  • Allow the Authorware viewer to run by clicking on OK when prompted

Our Career Information System (CIS) delivers facts on future employment opportunities for high school and college students as well as for adult career changers and job seekers. The U.S. Employment Situation: October 2006

Washington, DC (11/3) - Employment increased in October, and the unemployment rate declined to 4.4 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Nonfarm payroll employment grew by 92,000 in October following gains of 148,000 in September and 230,000 in August (as revised). >> more
