Washington,

U.S. Representative Thelma Drake (R-Va.) issued the following statement on the announcement by the U.S. Department of Labor that non-farm payrolls had exceeded expectations and increased by 51,000 in September:
“Today, we received word that the U.S. economy continues to surge,” said Rep. Drake. “Today’s employment numbers demonstrate that we have had over three years of consecutive job growth thanks to pro-growth policies based upon tax relief. We are seeing more and more evidence that Americans families are continuing to benefit as gas prices drop, wages increase and unemployment falls.”
In addition to the September gains, revisions show that 60,000 more jobs were created in August than originally reported. With the recent gains in September, the economy has now added more than 6.6 million payroll jobs over the past three years. The U.S. Department of labor also reported that wages grew by 0.2% in September and 12% over the last twelve months. The national average price of gasoline has dropped 74 cents since August and unemployment dropped to 4.6 percent, which is lower than the average rate of the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s.
