Henry Brown Supports 25 x '25 Initiative
"25% of Domestic Energy Needs from Renewable Resources by 2025"
Washington,
Sep 20 -
Congressmen Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) has indicated his support for a resolution that calls for a new national renewable energy goal: 25 % of the nation’s energy supply from renewable sources by 2025.
“We must take bold steps to reduce our dependency on foreign sources of energy,” Brown said. “The 25 x ’25 initiative will mobilize the nation’s farmers, ranchers and foresters to provide the crops and forest products necessary to meet this goal. I expect our refiners and processors, as well, to accept this challenge to produce more American-made energy.”
In supporting the 25 x ‘25 goal, Brown met with members of the Energy Future Coalition and inspected a flexible-fuel vehicle capable of running on an E85 ethanol-gasoline blend.
H. Con Res. 424 establishes “25 x ‘25” as a national goal. Specifically, the resolution states that it is the goal of the United States that, not later than January 1, 2025, the agricultural, forestry and working land of the United States should provide from renewable resources not less than 25 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States and continue to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed, and fiber.
