Homeland Security

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

September 11, 2001 is a date that is etched into the hearts and minds of all peace-loving Americans. Not since December 7, 1941 has a date been so strongly woven into the fabric of a country – even the world.

On that fateful day in September, Americans faced the worst attack in our history. The focus of our national policy shifted from that of playing a passive role in the war on terrorism to being thrust into the front lines.

Our government reacted to the attacks with measures design to combat terrorism at home and abroad. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been created to provide law enforcement and intelligence offers greater authority to gather and share evidence. Immigration law has been modified to address the threat of foreign terrorists entering our borders.

Americans living in the post-9/11 world should not let fear govern their actions. They should exercise a heightened sense of vigilance while enjoying the freedoms for which we continue to preserve.
