Law Enforcement Agencies Receive Funding for Bullet-Resistant Vests

Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) today announced the law enforcement agencies in the First Congressional District to receive bullet-resistant vests through the FY 2006 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program.
“I am pleased to see the funds distributed to these deserving law enforcement agencies,” said Brown. “The men and women who protect our lives and property should have adequate protection as they perform their duties.”
Jurisdictions to receive funding include:
Aynor Police Department
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office
Conway Police Department
Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office
Folly Beach Public Safety
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office
Goose Creek Police Department
Horry County Sheriff’s Office
Mount Pleasant Police Department
North Charleston Police Department
Surfside Beach Police Department
The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement.
Since 1999, over 11,900 jurisdictions have participated in the BVP Program, with $173 million in federal funds committed to support the purchase of an estimated 450,000 vests. The Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the BVP Program.
